Orlando has long been a top destination for travelers, and it’s no surprise why. While Walt Disney World often takes the spotlight, just 20 minutes away lies another world of adventure: Universal Orlando Resort. Known for its incredible attractions, including the Wizarding World of Harry Potter, Universal Orlando is a must-visit destination for families, couples, and thrill-seekers alike. And now, with the highly anticipated addition of *Epic Universe* now open, there’s even more reason to plan your visit!
Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned Universal fan, here are some dos and don’ts for your trip.
Don’t: Overpack
Universal’s locker system is designed for light travelers. Small lockers are free, but larger ones come with a fee. If you can manage to go bag-free with just your lanyard, you’ll have a smoother experience. For those with kids or specific needs, pack light—just the essentials like sunscreen, a refillable water bottle, and maybe a small poncho for water rides.
Do: Bring a Lanyard
A lanyard with a cardholder is a game-changer at Universal. Many rides require you to store your belongings in lockers, and having your park ticket, Express Pass, and room key easily accessible around your neck will save you time and hassle. You can find affordable options online, and getting different designs for each family member can add a fun touch.
Do: Plan Your Day
While Universal doesn’t require the months of planning that Disney does, having a game plan is still essential. Familiarize yourself with the park map and prioritize your must-see attractions. With the addition of Epic Universe, which features five immersive worlds, including a new Super Nintendo World, you’ll want to allocate time to explore this groundbreaking park. Definitely reach out to me if you need help and I include digital maps in your itinerary for review and planning. The app is also a great resource for planning before and navigating during.
Don’t: Waste the Extra Hour in the Morning
If you’re staying at a Universal hotel, you’ll enjoy Early Park Admission, which gives you access to select attractions before the general public. Use this time wisely! If you don’t have an Express Pass, head straight to the most popular rides like Hagrid’s Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure, Mine-Cart Madness or VelociCoaster. If you do have an Express Pass, take this time to explore the details of Diagon Alley or Hogsmeade or Super Nintendo World, shop for a wand at Ollivanders, or enjoy the quieter atmosphere.
Do: Try Butterbeer (and More!)
No trip to the Wizarding World of Harry Potter is complete without trying Butterbeer. The frozen version is a fan favorite, and you can skip the outdoor lines by ordering it inside the Hog’s Head Pub. For adults, don’t miss the exclusive craft beers available in Hogsmeade. And with Epic Universe’s introduction, there are even more Butterbeer options. The crepe in Café L’air De La Sirène is quickly becoming another fan favorite, but with the cost and sweetness, bring a friend or friends to share.
Don’t: Ride Water Rides Unprepared
Universal’s water rides, like Jurassic Park River Adventure and Dudley Do-Right’s Ripsaw Falls, are thrilling but will leave you soaked. Wear quick-drying clothes or pack flip-flops to avoid soggy sneakers. If you’re staying at a Universal hotel, consider scheduling water rides in the morning and heading back to your room to change before tackling the rest of the park.
Do: Explore Epic Universe
Universal’s Epic Universe redefines theme park experiences. This new park will features five immersive worlds, including Super Nintendo World, a Universal Monsters-themed area, and more. With cutting-edge attractions, dining, and entertainment, Epic Universe promises to be a game-changer. Be sure to include it in your plans! It is bringing the park back to theme park and is just a new experience worth more and more time.
